March 2026 marks five years since AMBAR ITC introduced fibre laser marking as a distinctive production capability. What in 2021 was a technique complementary to photo-anodising and UVI printing has become one of the capabilities most in demand among our clients, especially in sectors with individual serialisation and serialised traceability requirements.
Fibre laser marking makes it possible to physically alter the surface of the material (anodised aluminium, stainless steel, engineering plastics) with no contact, no ink and no consumables, creating permanent information that does not peel or fade. Typical applications: individual DataMatrix codes, variable per-unit P/N and S/N, tooling identification, traceable serialisation of regulated components.
Over these five years, laser marking has enabled AMBAR ITC to offer individual traceability to sectors where previously only batch-level work was done: aeronautics, aerospace, defence, railway and Industry 4.0 with integrated Smart Labels. The technique is a perfect complement to photo-anodising, which remains our reference technique for long-life identification with fixed graphic information.
For the coming years, the plan is to continue expanding the integration of laser marking with clients' traceability systems: direct connection to ERP for automatic code assignment, validation with machine-vision systems, and combination with RFID/NFC Smart Labels for mixed visual-digital traceability.
